Cheese & Upper Egypt specialities
Qarish cheese — 1 kg
120 EGP / kg
Fresh qarish cheese — white, soft, lightly salted: the cheese an Egyptian breakfast starts with. Mild and crumbly, it takes whatever you put with it: olive oil, tomato, rocket, chilli or a pinch of cumin. Most often eaten at breakfast with baladi or bettaw bread, mashed with tomato and onion as a cheese salad, used to fill fiteer and sambousek, or spooned over hot fava beans. A light alternative to any salty cheese if you are cutting back on salt. Being fresh cheese it belongs in the fridge from the moment it arrives, in a sealed box, kept in its own liquid if there is any. This is the full kilo; a 500 g tub is also available.
